Hatem Haddad holds a Ph.D. from Grenoble Alpes University, France. Following his Ph.D., he undertook postdoctoral fellowships at the VTT Technical Research Center of Finland and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. His academic career includes assistant professor positions at several institutions, such as Grenoble Alpes University (France), United Arab Emirates University (UAE), Sousse University (Tunisia), Mevlana University (Turkey), and Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium).
In addition to his academic work, Haddad has experience in industrial research and development with the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the Institute for Infocomm Research in Singapore. He has also been an invited researcher at the Leibniz-Fachhochschule School of Business in Germany and the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra in Portugal. His professional background also includes leadership experience in the startup sector, where he has held CTO positions.
Currently, his research focuses on natural language processing, machine learning, deep learning, LLMs, and generative AI, with a particular emphasis on Arabic and African speech and language processing.
Haddad is an active contributor to the scientific community. He serves as a program chair for various conferences, reviewer for journals and conferences in the AI field and associate editor for ACM Transactions on Asian and Low-Resource Language Information Processing.
