Guest Speaker: Janvier Kabananiye, Director of Research and Development at Rwanda Energy Group
Abstract: This lecture will review the history of electrical energy in Rwanda, the present, and the forecasted future. The speaker will also present the operational challenges in the national grid and potential areas of improvement. Strategic targets of Rwanda's energy sector will also be explained.
Biography: Janvier Kabananiye holds a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Oklahoma Christian University. A recognized university for its combination of ethical values and engineering. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in energy policy and public management from the University of California, Davis. He obtained his bachelor's degree in 2011 in electrical and electronics engineering from the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology. Kabananiye has more than eleven years of work experience in Rwanda and internationally, ranging from energy policy, project design, financing and implementation, and research and development. Kabananiye joined Rwanda Environment Management Authority in 2011 as renewable energy and energy efficiency promotion officer then moved to Rwanda Ministry of Infrastructure as a senior engineer, energy transmission and distribution in 2016. In 2017 he joined Rwanda Energy Group as an engineering planning coordinator, and now is the director of research and development.
