Wanjira Kinuthia joins CMU-Africa

Carnegie Mellon University Africa is pleased to announce the appointment of Wanjira Kinuthia as professor of the practice for inclusive higher education and graduate pathways, effective September 1, 2025.
Throughout her career, Kinuthia has dedicated herself to enhancing learning design technology and curriculum development through a multifaceted approach, encompassing research, publications, teaching, and service.
With over 20 years of experience in educational technology across Africa, the Caribbean, and the United States, Kinuthia's career has spanned higher education, international organizations, and NGOs. Her work has focused on the intersection of pedagogical innovation, educational technology, and digital learning design.
"Wanjira Kinuthia brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to CMU-Africa. We are delighted to welcome her to the community and look forward to the impact she will make on our programs," said Conrad Tucker, director of CMU-Africa.
Kinuthia's previous appointments include associate professor of learning sciences at Georgia State University, where she explored the integration of technology into teacher education. She has also held appointments at United States International University, Africa as lead trainer in instructional design, Arizona State University as a co-instructor as part of the Mastercard Foundation's e-Learning Initiative, adjunct professor at the University of Maryland, Global Campus, and as associate faculty at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University in Dubai, among others.
Kinuthia holds a Ph.D. in instructional design and technology from the University of South Alabama. As a whole, her research interests are defined by a commitment to leveraging technology to enhance education. Her extensive publication record includes books, journal articles, book chapters, and conference presentations.
As an educator and learning design professional, Kinuthia has experience working with organizations like the African Development Bank and the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) Pedagogical Leadership in Africa (PedaL) initiative, where she designed and implemented training programs that utilized technology to improve educational outcomes through professional development programs. Her international experience also extends to projects with UNICEF, UNHCR, the Commonwealth of Learning, the University of the West Indies Global Campus, and the Profuturo Foundation.
