Range anxiety and long charging times are the primary holdups for the widespread adoption of e-mobility. This is despite significant advances in lithium-ion battery (LIB) technology. DC fast charging could be a solution to alleviate range anxiety. However, the main drawback of rapid charging (up to 350 kW) is that it leads to rapid deterioration of battery capacity. The talk will discuss how estimation and control can be improved through IoT and ML advances, and review the developments trends, and barriers to the commercialization of research ideas that persist in the industrial or academic community
Bio: Sheldon Williamson (Fellow, IEEE) is a professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Software Engineering and director of the Smart Transportation Electrification and Energy Research (STEER) Group. He is also faculty of engineering and applied sciences, Ontario Tech University, Oshawa, Canada. He also holds the NSERC Canada Research Chair in electric energy storage systems for transportation electrification.
